Bridging the Gender Pain Gap Pain Inquiry Report 2025

12 November 2025

Women’s pain continues to be underestimated and undertreated.

The Victorian Government’s Bridging the Gender Pain Gap inquiry highlights ongoing inequities in how women and gender-diverse people experience pain assessment and treatment.

In acute and procedural settings, including emergency and gynaecological care, timely and effective pain management is essential. Addressing these inequities is key to improving outcomes and patient experience.

MDI is committed to advancing equitable, evidence-based pain management. We support initiatives that strengthen clinical standards, promote best practice, and improve timely access to appropriate care. We were pleased to provide a submission to the Inquiry into Women’s Pain Subcommittee.

MDI welcomes the inquiry’s recommendations and looks forward to collaborating with clinicians, researchers, and health system leaders to help close the gender pain gap in Australia.
